A Message from Fr. Joe

Dear Friends in Christ,

We are looking forward to our Advent Lessons and Carols service. Our lessons will take us from Creation to the fall of our humanity, and then the anticipation of the coming Messiah. These lessons will be interspersed with Advent hymns and carols, some of which may be familiar, and others unfamiliar. Either way, our hope is that you will catch the great themes of the season of Advent they contain. As we catch this season, we are deepening our faith in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, both in His first and second Advent. We hope you can join us this Friday at 6:30pm.

This upcoming Sunday is traditionally called Gaudete Sunday, which means "rejoice." On this Sunday, we light the rose candle along with two other blue candles. Advent is known as a semi-penitential season. We prepare the way of the Lord in our repentance and need for a savior to come into the world. Yet, we rejoice because our Savior takes the face of Jesus Christ. We do not fear the coming judgment of the world because we trust in our Savior who has already received judgment on our behalf. You may have noticed the removal of our “Alleluia” responses in our liturgy. This of course was intentional for Advent, but we will restore them into the liturgy for this Sunday! I encourage you to belt them out with and especial gusto, before they disappear again!

Grace and Peace,
Fr. Joe

Preparing the Way by Fr. Joe

    2DB62351-992A-4BEA-AC1E-B96B8BCAF615
A message from the series "Sermons from Lectionary Texts." On this Second Sunday in Advent, we focused on John the Baptist’s cry from the prophet Isaiah, “Prepare the Way of the LORD.” In the midst of the wilderness, the word of the LORD finally came and it was to prepare us for our coming Messiah. What does it look like to prepare the way for His second coming? Take a listen and see.

    This Sunday's Hymns

This section of the dispatch contains samples of hymns and other music that we will be singing the this Sunday. If you come across any hymns you are not familiar with, these will be helpful for you to review so that you may sing with greater confidence and attention each Sunday. Happy singing!

    Come, Ye Thankful People, Come

The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns

Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming

    Behold the Lamb

    Prepare the Way, O Zion

    Eagle-and-Child
Join us every second and fourth (usually) Thursday night for our Eagle and Child reading group! This is a group that meets to discuss and apply classic works in Christian theology from the likes of Lewis, Augustine, Bonhoeffer, and other important authors. Currently, we are reading The Love of Wisdom by Andrew Davison to discuss the history of philosophy as it relates to Christian theology and practice.
    CanaVox-Logo-tinified
Cana Vox is a discussion group that meets every other Friday where those, married or unmarried, who support a classical understanding of marriage can explore the controversial issues in a calm, deliberative setting that is not subject to the hostilities often found in today's public discourse on the topic. We seek to discuss thoughtful and gospel-oriented responses to the confusion surrounding marriage in our culture.

    Advent Sunday Catechesis

We continue our series on Advent this Sunday morning: its place in the church calendar, its collects, and how we engage the season in our liturgy and at home. Our children are working hard with Miss Maggie on the Christmas Pageant. Please pray and support our children as they prepare to re-tell the story of Christmas in our worship service on the Fourth Sunday of Advent.
