A Message from Chad

Dear Friends in Christ,

As you enter into the church this Sunday, you will see green banners, as well as green clergy vestments. This is the primary liturgical color of this season which began this last Sunday with Trinity Sunday: Ordinary Time. As we enter into this time, we are called to remember and be inspired by the ways the church has been planted and grown throughout the whole world, like branches of a vine (John 15:1). The collects and scripture lessons in this season are to illustrate for us the ways in which the Holy Spirit has empowered and enlivened the church for its mission in the world. Anglican Compass has a helpful resource here if you want to learn more about this time in the church's year.

As we keep this theme in mind, it will be a pleasure to welcome Bishop Grant LeMarquand for the first time this summer, as someone who has participated in growing God's church everywhere from Canada, to the United States, to Ethiopia, and just about everywhere in between. He has been a tremendous help to St. John's in the past, serving as our interim-bishop throughout most of Covid-tide, and also in performing confirmations in August of last year for many in our congregation. It will be good to have him with us once again.

Finally, in the way of a quick update concerning our search committee, Bob Archibald, the committee chair, has reported that all is going well. In our last meeting, we began to narrow our search, and we have a couple of candidates to consider, with still more applications coming in. The Committee will meet again next week, after which there will be a more substantive update on our progress.

Have a wonderful week, and enjoy the warmer weather we have ahead of us. See you Sunday!

Grace and Peace,
Chad Sanner

How Do We Talk About God? by Fr. Bryan

A message from the series "Sermons from Lectionary Texts." This Pentecost Sunday, Fr. Bryan naturally preached on the Holy Spirit. Who is he? What is his mission in and among the church? And what does this mean for us today?
