A Message from Chad

Dear Friends in Christ,

As I have been reflecting on this past summer, it is a great encouragement to know how many friends our congregation has in our communion, and how many people are really pulling for our success at St. John's. Not every church has retired bishops and all manner of other priests willing to fill in at churches like ours. For this reason, I consider us blessed beyond comprehension. But as great as this is, we can also be thankful that this "in-between" period will be drawing to a close here fairly shortly.

That said, we are still looking forward to the arrival of Fr. Joe and his family in about a week and a half. Thank you to everyone who has signed up to provide meals for the Gasbarre family in their initial move. These will be tremendously helpful for them, and they are a generous and loving note to start on as we welcome Fr. Joe and his family into our community.

God's grace has certainly preceded us in this call process. God's grace has enabled us to be the type of community which can grow in love and in the bonds of fellowship in Christ. He has also enabled us to be discerning and thorough in our selection process, guiding us to call a rector who can adequately care for our unique situation as a church. But as our collect reminds us, we need God's grace continually. We need his grace to follow after us as well in order to sustain us in our life in Christ. So in the coming days, as we bring to God our thanksgivings for the grace that has brought us to where we are together, pray also remembering that we stand in continual need of God's grace in the future ahead for our community. With any new situation or transition, like your first day of high school, or becoming a new parent, there will be some level of uncertainty. However, in the face of any uncertainty, either from excitement or nervousness, we can be confident together that God's grace has gone before us already, and that he will sustain us by his grace as we get there. I do believe that God has continually been gracious to St. John's, and in more ways than we could possibly count or even recognize. So let us continue in this grace, trusting God to lead us into truth and peace and life in Jesus Christ.

O Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow after us, that we may continually be given to good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

God's Peace,
Chad Sanner

A message from the series "Sermons from Lectionary Texts." Bishop Grant LeMarquand was with us once again this weekend to preach on the spiritual significance of the Armor of Christ passage in Ephesians 6, as well as the true enemy against which this armor is deployed in the spiritual fight Christians experience daily.
