| | We had a wonderful Ash Wednesday service last week and are now through the first Sunday of Lent. Our Eagle & Child reading of Malcolm Guite's collection of poetry has been very well received, and there is still time to order the book if you've not had a chance to do so. Guite has chosen one poem for each day of lent, and each poem is followed by very helpful commentary. Thus, the book is both a lenten devotional and a fun exercise in learning to appreciate poetry.

If you've been participating in adult catechesis, then you may want to prepare for this coming Sunday by reading questions 268-289 which cover the first through the third commandments. We meet at the church at 9:00 am on Sundays, and participants are encouraged to read ahead and come prepared with comments and questions.

Since several of you have asked about the Anglican Rite of Reconciliation, you may want to read my brief blog post on the subject below. Confession of sin to a brother or sister is a powerful practice, and I do commend it.

Reading through some of the "occasional prayers" from our prayerbook, I came across the following collect, which seems appropriate for this season. I hope you will pray it for yourself and on behalf of St. John's, during the week ahead.
