A Message from Fr. Bryan

Dear Friends in Christ,

As I mentioned in the dispatch last Wednesday, our business meeting will take place on Zoom immediately following our worship service this coming Sunday, January 31st. Please plan to stay online, and we will try to move through the meeting quickly. In addition to opening and closing prayers, our agenda will include these three items:
  1. A Financial Report by our Treasurer, Bill Griffing
  2. Comments from our Rector about the year ahead
  3. A church vote to transition from a Mission Council to a Vestry
Regarding the Mission Council's transition to a Vestry, please note the following. The Council currently includes Bob Archibald, Bill Griffing, David Beer, Dale Boston, Maggie Archibald, and Joe Russell. Bill Griffing will rotate off of the council on Sunday but remain as the church's treasurer. Maggie Archibald will also transition off but will remain as the church's Secretary. It is customary for the church Treasurer and the church Secretary to attend Vestry meetings but not be involved in deliberations or voting. This will be the practice of St. John's moving forward. If you are curious about the role of a Vestry in an Anglican Church, then click here.

Additionally, the Mission Council has nominated Dan McWilliams and Jackie Tritabaugh to join the Vestry at the time of this transition. Dan and Jackie have both been Anglicans for some time, and Jackie has experience on a Vestry, including as Senior Warden. Just this once, qualified members of St. John's will be invited to vote "yes" or "no" for the entire slate of candidates - the four remaining Mission Council members in addition to Dan and Jackie. In future years, as members rotate off of the Vestry, the full membership will be involved in both the nomination process and in voting "yes" or "no" as individual members are elected to serve.

The vote will take place via an anonymous survey emailed to all of our members during the Zoom meeting. Please look for more detailed instructions about the meeting, including an agenda and survey instructions, later this week.

Finally, I am especially happy to report that this coming Sunday will, by God's grace, be our final Sunday service exclusively on Zoom. Please plan to come by the church and pick up your bread at any of the following times.
  1. Thursday, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm
  2. Friday, from 10 am to Noon
  3. Saturday morning, 10 am to Noon
I hope you all have a wonderful week.

Grace & Peace,
Bryan+
